The HydroNauts

In April 2000 Reading Dive approached PADI Instructor Roger Gotobed and asked him to set up a Dive School to work in conjunction with the shop thereby making diver training available to their customers. From this beginning was borne HydroDive, the diving school. At the same time Roger set up the club, The HydroNauts, knowing that once trained, newly qualified divers would need a forum to meet with other divers, and a vehicle to assist with the organising of dives as well as a place to practice skills and try out new equipment. Although Reading Dive has since closed down, HydroDive, and the HydroNauts have continued to flourish.

Every Monday and Thursday HydroDive stays open until 20:00, affording members the opportunity to purchase or hire equipment. From 20:30 until 22:00 there is a pool session at Crosfields School, and then afterwards members meet at a local pub (currently the Black Boy on the Shinfield Road) for a well earned spot of rehydration and a chance to socialise with other members.
